Baltimore and Ohio’s Cincinnatian by Thomas W. Dixon, Jr.
About this item
B&O’s Cincinnatian, one of scores of new trains inaugurated by the many railroads in the decade after WWII when passenger business was still booming. It was an all-coach train consisting of only five cars, powered by a streamlined Pacific type (4-6-2) steam locomotive. This one small, but highly advertised train served as somewhat of an emblem of the enthusiasm on the part of many(though not all) railroad in the immediate post-WWII period, embodying the high hopes that passenger business could be retained by railroads in the face of highway and airline competition.
